OK OK OK – pasta is my guilty pleasure. I definitely should have never learned how to make it from scratch, but here I am eating a bowl of it as I type out how you can make it at home yourself! My aunt shared this recipe with me and after a few times making it on my own, I wanted to share it with all of you 🙂
INGREDIENTS (and I’m srsly not kidding):
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of water (may not even use the whole half cup)
Take a cup of flour, and dump it nicely on a large flat surface. Create a crater in the middle.
Now – be frugal with the water at first! Pour about 1/4 of the water into the crater and begin slowly mixing the flour and water together. It’s ok if the water escaped the crater, as it spreads the flour will soak it up. Continue to knead the dough and add water if it’s too dry. The dough should not crack or crumble – if it’s doing that, add more water. However, the dough should also NOT be sticky. If it’s too sticky continue to knead the dough, if it’s not getting better, add a bit more flour.
After completely mixing the dough into a ball, knead the dough for about 10 mins. Making sure there are no clumps, dry spots or wet spots. The consistency should feel a tiny bit less stickier than play-dough. (If you’re planning on cooking the pasta now, go ahead and get some water bowling now).
Grab a rolling pin and add a bit of flour to the outside of it. Incase the dough is a little on the stickier side, go ahead and throw some flour on the flat surface as well. Begin slowly rolling out the dough. After every two rolls or so, flip and turn the dough around so you’re getting a nice even roll.
Here’s when it comes down to preference. I personally love a thicker noddle and a fettuccini like cut. After rolling it to the thickness I like, I take a knife and cut strips of the dough. I don’t want the noodle too long, so I cut the middle, longer strips in half.
Once my water is boiling, I take the soft noodles and throw it in the pot. I add a tiny bit of salt and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Once you see the pasta float to the top, it’s done!
This recipe is super fast and easy, the actual cook time is way less than normal store-bought pasta. The fun is in the process 🙂 Also if you’re a sauce person, I’ve really enjoyed making homemade sauces for my pasta dishes. More recipes coming soon!
