First things first – my skincare journey for the past two years has been a rough one. I went from normal breakouts to full blown ones. Adult acne is A THING! But, we shouldn’t be ashamed of it. If anything, I’ve learned so much about the importance of a consistent skincare routine that works for your specific skin type. My breakouts are directly associated with my stress level and man – the past two weeks have been some of the most stressful of my life and now it’s caught up to my skin. In a hail mary attempt I stopped at Target to pick up a few random face masks and a light exfoliant.
I spent my Saturday night cleansing, exfoliating and masking in hopes of clearer skin – but what I woke up to the next morning was not what I expected! My skin was supple, smoother, less red/irritated and slightly clearer. My acne had shrunk in size and with the pain level at a 2 compared to the night before. I was absolutely shocked and felt the need to share the products I used because my skin just felt that damn good.
HERE’S WHAT I DID:
1. Exfoliated with Yes to Tomatoes, detoxifying charcoal 2-in-1 Scrub & Cleanser Stick
2. TOOK A SHOWER! Opening up those pores with the steam from a hot shower is a quick and easy way to get your skin ready for soaking up a face mask.
3. Applied the Que Bella, Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Mud Mask – because tea tree oil has reported antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and my main goal was to minimize my breakout. I used a silicone face mask brush to keep my natural oils/bacteria from my hands from getting onto my freshly exfoliated skin.
5. Every morning and night I apply Trader Joe’s Lemongrass Coconut Body Oil to my face, neck and hands, so naturally I finished up my self care Saturday with that.
