Glamping in Bali

Titled this “Glamping in Bali” because I’ve gone the hostel route while traveling and Airbnb-ing it almost felt like I was cheating (lol). I loved experiencing Bali this way, it made activities a bit more accessible and efficient! Find below a breakdown of where we stayed, the pros and cons and my favorite amenities.

FELLA Luxury Beach Villa Canggu

Location: Canggu (pronounced SHANE-GOO)

Nights Recommended Stay: At least 2

Cost per night: $300.00 USD

Useful Amenities: Breakfast each morning (unless it’s a Sunday), a driver on call (still need to pay for it, but nice to have an easy connection for quick local trips), strong WiFi, immediate communication if anything is broken or not working, can get massages/manicures/pedicures (basically a whole spa) delivered to you.

Pros: Just a short walk into town, has an AMAZING pool area and hammock, extremely  spacious, kind neighbors, a great book selection. You will meet one of the kindest humans, Miss Tia. She is an amazing house host, is extremely welcoming and makes the most delicious banana pancakes. Strike up a conversation with her, she is an open book with a world of stories to share – it was incredibly touching and inspiring! BEAUTIFUL OUTDOOR SHOWER BTW.

Cons: A 20 – 30 minute walk to the major beach club/lounge, THE LAWN. It wasn’t a major con for us, but if you’re not expecting to walk a long distance or even prepared to at night after going out I would reconsider staying closer. Our main goal was to enjoy our time, but not party hard, so when booking places to stay we didn’t take into account staying near major beach clubs.

Luxueuse villa au cœur de Seminyak

Location: Seminyak (pronounced SEM-IN-YACK)

Nights Recommended Stay: At least 2

Cost per night: $280.00 USD

Useful Amenities: A strong blowdryer (would recommend not packing one, most every place including the hostels had one), strong WiFi, immediate communication if anything is broken or not working, can get massages/spa delivered to you.

Pros: Just a short walk into town, is a HUGE space, incredibly beautiful with 3 similar rooms and 1 cottage style room elevated above the rest.

Cons: A 20 – 30 minute walk to the major beach club, Potato Head. We walked there and took a very cheap taxi back.

Location: Ubud (pronounced OO-BOOD)

Nights Recommended Stay: At least 2

Cost per night: $195.00 USD

Useful Amenities: Breakfast each morning (unless it’s a Sunday), a driver on call (still need to pay for it, but nice to have an easy connection for local trips), ok WiFi connection, immediate communication if anything is broken or not working.

Pros: It’s a stunning space and the photos don’t do it justice. They have handbooks that breakdown just about anything and everything you may need/want to do in Ubud. You can have a floating breakfast, massages and flower baths delivered.

Cons: A long drive from town. You have to either get a driver or rent a scooter if you’d like to see a lot. Also, you are in the middle of nature, be prepared for an insane amount of bugs and chirping critters.

Location: Nusa Penida Island

Nights Recommended Stay: At least 2

Cost per night: $40.00 USD

Useful Amenities: Breakfast each morning (unless it’s a Sunday), a driver on call (still need to pay for it, but nice to have an easy connection for local trips), ok WiFi connection, host lives right next to the property and is easily accessible in case of anything.

Pros: Free breakfast, a 5 minute walk to one of the islands most beautiful beaches, Crystal Bay, a very sweet house host, Putu. A cafe that accepts cash and card walking distance (2 mins), can get massages delivered.

Cons: Compared to our other stays this one was drastically different. Nusa Penida is an island off the south east coast of Bali and has a bit of a shock factor when first arriving. The roads are extremely bumpy and I would not recommend driving a scooter unless you are very experienced. The places to stay are small cottages like this one in groups of 3 – 8ish scattered around the island. They are beautiful on the outside, but can be hit or miss inside. It’s an adventure island, so where you’re staying isn’t important vanity wise. The biggest takeaway would be booking something that’s in a relatively good location compared to viewpoints. I loved this location because we were walking distance to clear blue waters and warm sand!

Location: Kuta, prime location to stay if you’ve just landed or are going to take off early in the morning. About a 20 minute drive to the airport.
Nights Recommended Stay: At least 2
Cost per night: Depends on the type of room you request!Useful Amenities: Breakfast each morning (unless it’s a Sunday), WiFi connection, a cafe on site, an amazing upper pool deck area, private rooms.Pros: Walking distance into town, cheap and great amenities.Cons: Not really any, great bang for your buck.
